The most comfortable season, with cool, dry weather ideal for exploring the site at a relaxed pace, including the walk between the Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain cave groups.
Monsoon (July-September)
The hills around Ellora turn green and the site takes on a dramatic backdrop, though be prepared for rain interruptions and slippery stone surfaces, especially around the Kailasa Temple's courtyard.
Summer (April-June)
Hot and often crowded with domestic tourists on holiday — an early morning start is strongly recommended if visiting during this period.
Weekly Closure
Ellora Caves are closed on Tuesdays — a different closure day from Ajanta (Mondays), worth double-checking if you're planning to see both sites on a single trip.
