Mehrangarh Fort is one of India's largest and most imposing forts, rising 125 metres above Jodhpur on a sheer rock outcrop and visible from almost anywhere in the city.
History
Construction began in 1459 under Rao Jodha, the Rajput ruler who founded Jodhpur, and the fort was expanded by his successors over the following centuries — its massive walls and imposing gates reflect a long history of defending against rival kingdoms.
What to See
The fort houses an extensive museum displaying royal palanquins, armory, musical instruments, and elaborately decorated palace rooms. The ramparts offer sweeping views over Jodhpur's "Blue City" old town spread out below.

October to March; morning visits offer the clearest views over the blue-painted old city from the ramparts.
