Marine Drive is a sweeping, C-shaped boulevard that curves for about 3 km along Mumbai's Arabian Sea coastline, connecting Nariman Point at one end to Girgaon Chowpatty Beach at the other.
Why It's Called the "Queen's Necklace"
At night, the long curve of streetlights along the promenade, viewed from a height, resembles a glittering necklace laid out against the dark sea — a nickname that has stuck for decades and is best appreciated from an elevated vantage point like a rooftop bar along the drive.
What to Do There
Marine Drive is less a single "attraction" and more a way of experiencing the city — locals and visitors alike walk, jog, or simply sit along the sea wall, especially in the evening as the sun sets over the water.
Chowpatty Beach
At the northern end, Girgaon Chowpatty adds a livelier, more chaotic energy with street food stalls (particularly bhel puri and pav bhaji) and a busy beach atmosphere, quite different from the calmer promenade further south.

Sunset is the classic time for Marine Drive, when the sky over the sea turns orange and the promenade fills with people out for an evening walk.
