Arthur's Seat is widely considered Mahabaleshwar's most dramatic viewpoint — a sheer cliff edge offering views straight down into the Konkan region below, so steep that it has earned the local nickname "Point of Suicide" for the drop involved.
The View
Unlike many of Mahabaleshwar's other points, which look over the plateau's own valleys, Arthur's Seat looks directly toward the Konkan coastal belt — on a clear day the difference in terrain far below is striking.
Colonial-Era Naming
The viewpoint is named after a British officer from the colonial era, one of several English-named points around Mahabaleshwar dating to when it served as a summer retreat for British administrators.
Best Time to Visit
Clear mornings offer the best visibility into the valley below; during monsoon the view is often obscured by cloud, though the surrounding greenery is at its lushest.
